Desert silence

“Who can take away suffering without entering it? It is an illusion to think that a person can be led out of the desert by someone who has never been there!”
― Henri J.M. NouwenThe Wounded Healer

a desert home

In desert silence where form shuts down,
and sands move me
to higher ground.
Alone I search pellucid horizons
for rescue,
and no one comes.

But in the stillness of celestial presence,
where stars encrust
the radiant skies,
I hear a voice gently speak,
to bid me wait
for wounded healers,
sojourners of this desert landscape.

In divine moment,
faith sounds like intervention,
the breath of life revives
my waning substance.

And on the sacred ground
that is my life,
I’m tempered by love,
awakened to destiny,
and all this time
it’s grace
that guides me back
to the place called home….

Waves of grief

There are days when you wake up happy;
Again inside the fullness of life,
Until the moment breaks
And you are thrown back
onto the black tide of loss
― John O’Donohue

a wave of griefIt’s no gentle wave
that sweeps me off my feet,
a crouching swell
unbalanced me,
and at the bottom of turbulent seas,
a deluge of tears
brings me
to
my
knees.

my brave face
gets drowned out.
paralyzed
and tossed about.

In squalls of sorrow
I gasp for breath,
grief’s extreme,
takes my strength.

Unreachable
there’s no way out,
disconsolate,
submerged
by doubt…

Tempests crash
and groan in despair,
swallowing each
and every prayer!

I ride the breakers
they reach the shores,
on common ground,
my soul
restores.

For beneath the billows,
there
is a light,
it takes
a village
to restore
my sight!

Sunday Musings

“May all that is unlived in you blossom into a future graced with love.”

when everything gets taken away,
and you’re stripped to the bone,
the true self emerges,
the one you’ve always known.
cast expectation on the waters,
and let movement flow,
an unseen force will enable you,
to arise and glow.

So you don’t get love letters anymore?

Close your eyes, fall in love, stay there!― Rumi
another love letter

So you don’t get love letters anymore?
Go out
again,
into the fields,
explore!

Supernatural expressions
and abundance grows,
pirouetting
and shimmering
in creative prose.

Serenading you
with undying love,
messages
that fall,
and sing like turtle doves.

And when you find despair is knocking at your door,
go out again,
and coalesce
with
Earth’s encore!

Elysium

“Knock and He’ll open the door
Vanish, and He’ll make you shine like the sun
fall, and He’ll raise you to the heavens
Become nothing, and He’ll turn you into everything.
― Rumi

elysiumwhere magic exists,
beneath
the canopy of sky,
i hold my breath,
what do i feel
a serenade on high!

if hell is real,
just hold my hand,
until fear passes,
so
i can stand,
in sacred ambience
of heaven,
where *Elysian’s fields call
and beckon.
that i may partake
in sacred vows,
this longing,
bathed in watchful clouds,
of upward gaze
and see
mystical realms
of majesty.

i’ve written of this separation,
this sacrifice,
i delved the afterlife,
awarded no goodbyes…

where is your favor Lord,
is it the setting sun,
can i hold grace
till my life is done?
waves of grief have knocked me off my feet,
in darkness i still believe,
though sorrow contaminates this life,
in bearing it,
i beg
pronounce me divine!

then paint over this pain,
with spectacles of light,
so i may live again!

grief’s dimensions
harmonized
in mystic signs,
rhapsodies of loss,
where heaven and earth have realigned…..

*This word came into Latin from the Greek Elysion. In classical mythology, Elysium, or the Elysian fields, was the home of the blessed after death, the final resting place of the souls of the heroic and the pure. So it’s easy to see how the word came to mean any place or state of bliss or delight.
